Personal Transit Handle

Fall 2023

Project Timeline: 2.5 months

For a human factors class, we were tasked to develop a physical product considering physical, emotional & cognitive human factors. I decided to research problems around UMN campus safety, and landed on an approach for public transportation systems that will eliminate student injury and overall elevate their experience on buses and trains.

Phase 1

Phase 2

Refinement Opportunity through UMN MVP challenge

MIN-Corps supports student innovators and local startups through the MVP Challenge.

An MVP or “Minimum Viable Product” is a tool to show customers and key stakeholders how your innovative idea could work, capture feedback, and bring your concept one step closer to reality.

Jolt handle received a grant from MVP in the "physical product" category to further research and development, get feedback and test with users to create a higher fidelity idea and prototype.

Physical Prototype Iterations

JOLT handle completely folds compact to store or keep out of the way when not in use on the bus. When in use it expands up to 23 inches. The handle indexes at different height positions to allow for more personalized and comfortable holding positions.

Multiple holding positions allow for multiple people to grab at once, unlike current bus handle solutions

A huge thank you to MIN Corps for sponsoring this project and making further development possible
